Corporate team – Senior Accountant

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee the financial operations of our emerging franchise business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, producing reports, and providing strategic financial guidance to support our company’s growth.  This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the financial future of a growing franchise business. The ideal candidate will combine technical accounting expertise with strategic financial management skills to support the company’s expansion and success. This role will report into the Brand President  and will collaborate with the CEO, vendors and strategic partners. 

Our Senior Accountant will be involved in all facets of financial transactions including accounts payable and receivable, bank account reconciliations, invoicing, journal entries, and revenue recognition. We are looking for a multi-skilled professional who will ensure accurate processing and recording of transactions while applying standard accounting principles that ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.  

This individual will have a mix of project-based components, requiring problem-solving skills, and standardized work processes, a strong work ethic and attention to detail.  The ideal candidate will possess a high level of competency with Excel, mastering pivot tables, v-lookups, and other complex functions to import and manipulate data from multiple internal and external sources. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the completion of more complex transactional tasks and will assist in the oversight of the accounting department’s daily operations.  This individual should aspire to grow into a managerial role with supervisory responsibilities in the future.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Prepare timely and complete monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including the accurate reporting of franchisee revenue recognition in accordance with Accounting Standards Codification (ASC)606
  • Define, calculate and report financial and operating key performance indicators (“KPIs”)
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, payroll, journal entries and financial reporting
  • Manage the monthly and year-end close processes
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary and/or related entities, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
  • Review the workflow of the department and implement continuous improvements to gain efficiencies
  • Manage outsourced functions and resources
  • Franchise disclosure (FDD) support

 

Transactions

  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Ensure that accounts receivables are invoiced and collected promptly, including all franchisee amounts for royalties, technology fees and other related costs
  • Maintain chart of accounts and an orderly accounting filing system
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed in a timely fashion
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Ensure that all franchisee transactions comply with each Franchise Agreement

 

Franchise-Specific Duties

  • Apply appropriate accounting guidelines related to revenue recognition for franchise fees and broker/FSO expenses according to GAAP
  • Maintain financial records for the franchisor and provide support for franchisee accounting needs
  • Oversee invoicing and collection of all fees and reporting from franchisees as indicated in the Franchise Agreement
  • Assist in preparing financial data for potential franchisees and lenders

 

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Work closely with senior management to prepare annual financial and capital budgets
  • Develop financial forecasts and perform variance analyses
  • Develop and update cash flow forecasts to ensure the Franchisor can meet operating needs and scale capital requirements in alignment with growth milestones
  • Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making and growth planning

 

Compliance and Audit

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Manage the annual external audit process, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks; support internal audit or control assessments as needed
  • Oversee tax preparation and filing for the franchisor entity

 

Team Leadership and Systems Management

  • Supervise and develop the accounting team as the company grows
  • Implement and optimize accounting software and ERP systems to improve efficiency
  • Continuously seek opportunities to streamline financial processes and automate key accounting functions

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with franchise operations or multi-unit businesses preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, growing business environment
